Isolation of NCCLs

Isolating the surgical field for the restoration of NCCLs presents the first challenge for the clinician, as the lesion may extend beyond the enamel-cement junction and into the gingival tissue. Fortunately, in this case, the lesions are coronal and were effectively isolated using a rubber dam secured with ligatures.

Adhesion

After rinsing off the etch, a multilayer of OptiBond™ Universal adhesive (Kerr Co, Orange, CA, USA) was applied to the surface with thorough rubbing and scrubbing, followed by air blowing for 20 seconds to facilitate solvent evaporation. The adhesive was then cured for an additional 40 seconds.

Complete the restoration

A single mass of SimpliShade™ Universal Composite was applied directly using a spatula, compacted, and adapted to the cavity while removing any excess. Once the composite material was properly adjusted, it was cured for 40 seconds.

Finishing and Polishing

The final stage of the restoration process involved finishing and polishing with a system of discs and rubber instruments. The sequence of discs is arranged from the most abrasive to the finest-grain disc.

Preparing the cavity for adhesion

After rinsing and drying for about as long as we etched, we put on some OptiBond Universal for adhesion.

Proximal buildup completed

For the last part of the adhesion protocol, we put on a thin layer of SimpliShade Bulk Fill Flow composite to cover and safeguard the hybrid layer and level the cavity floor. This let us rebuild all the interproximal walls, giving us two class I cavities to fill.

Filling the cavities

To finish filling the cavities, we used a single mass of bulk-fill composite (SimpliShade Bulk composite) for each one. After compacting and adjusting the material by removing any excess, we modeled the occlusal morphology and we drew the Essential lines

Finishing restorations

After adding characterizations, we used a Medium OptiDisc abrasive disc at low speed to finish the restorations.
